Sinhala Ballads

    Introduction

     Ballads based on some rural stories on jokes, advices, incidences were common among the rural farming communities in ancient days in Sri Lanka. Some sing the ballads in stages prepared for vivid shows. This is called VIRIDU. Some sell the leaflets with printed ballads written based on the cases or incidents occurred that time.

  • Sellers read loudly such ballads in common places such as bus stands, Stations, shopping areas and any other places that people gathering. However, ballads sellers are currently not available in Sri Lanka.
